ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a concluding vision for the future of multiage education by creating an education system that benefits ALL children, nurturing and developing their amazing and unique abilities. This chapter describes how the nature of the graded system is unable to provide an educational system that “fits the children.” The graded system is wrongly construed, misguided, and potentially harmful. Examples are given on how the archaic system continues to advantage older children in the same grade over younger children with a one-size-fits-all approach. However, by mixing the ages, a one-size-fits-all approach is impossible. In multiage, every child is on his or her own continuum of learning and mixed-age children do not compete with one another for the same expectations. No one is advantaged or disadvantaged. Multiage education provides the radical change that is needed for the future of our children. The voices of respected authors and educators are highlighted, inviting educators to begin a quiet revolution, dismantle the graded system conveyor belt, and invent a new educational system called multiage.
