ABSTRACT

This chapter is written for the facilitator of the reading evaluation process. It describes the pre-planning that needs to be done prior to the evaluation and first literacy leadership team meeting. The educators on school administrators' literacy leadership team will be charged with effectively evaluating their current and future reading program and practices. In schools where leadership teams have been suggested to be the most successful, they have been composed of volunteers who chose to serve and not of individuals who were mandated to be there. Evaluating school administrators' school district's literacy program and practices while further adopting new curricula can be a daunting process. Some leaders might be tempted to skip right to evaluating a new program. However, the curriculum review process will be much stronger if school administrator builds the capacity of their educators regarding existing materials and practices.
