ABSTRACT

The chapter begins with the importance of writing. It aims to evaluate the main constructs for effective writing programs. Like reading, writing is an indispensable tool. Writing allows us to communicate needs, express feelings, and make sense of our lives. A framework provides the ingredients that are needed to propel effective writing. Such considerations include daily allotment for writing, a year-long calendar of genres to be covered, and tools for instructional design. Research suggests that writing achievement is possible when school time is dedicated to daily writing that includes direct teaching on genre and process. Various literary elements associated with narrative writing, and these can be included as part of a narrative writing assessment. Assessments can also evaluate the qualities of writing. Informational writing is nonfiction writing that provides detailed information about a topic. Informational writing is composed across the disciplines.
