ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book aims to offer facilitators' the tools to create such an opportunity and provide new strategies for tackling global challenges together in the workplace, the classroom, and beyond. Learning to work effectively across global borders with teammates in other countries is more critical than ever. Practitioners, students, and educators from a variety of disciplines will find practical routes to initiating and sustaining productive intercultural work across disciplinary and social boundaries. Working with local colleagues is an opportunity to explore facilitators' own cultural values, local communication patterns, and the role of implicit bias. There is a higher need for collaboration skills beyond adequately preparing people to enter the global workforce. Skills in navigating, communicating, and collaborating across cultures are critical for understanding the gravity of global challenges and in cooperatively mobilizing to find solutions for them.
