ABSTRACT

Chapter 1 introduces the Six Dimensions of Intercultural Teamwork (1.1), which help remote teammates better understand how to communicate, work, and relate to each other. The activities in this chapter delve into many work preferences and factors that can affect or impede teamwork if not proactively addressed. The related activities help teams build a positive foundation through understanding differences in time, discussing their work availability, and identifying tools and approaches to support productive communication. For new collaborations, it is helpful to preview this chapter prior to beginning teamwork and then return to work through the activities together once the team is established. Existing teams can dive right in.
