ABSTRACT
This chapter defines what we mean by progress and explores our understanding of progress from several perspectives – the professional, the political, the pedagogical and the practical. It clarifies further the view of progress in relation to pace and challenge and goes into more detail regarding progress as transference of information v transmission of information. It also clarifies our understanding of how we experience challenge in the classroom when building on previous knowledge and learning new knowledge.
