ABSTRACT
How can we understand translation as a particular type of creative writing? The discussion in this book has suggested that a thorough understanding of style and its relation to theories of translation and descriptions of translation practice can help us to see how a translation is more than just a reproduction of another text. At the same time, the relation of the translation to its source text is crucial, and can be explained using the notion of “translational poetics”, that explains how the translator reads and makes stylistic choices that are then reflected in the style of the translated text.
