ABSTRACT

This first chapter outlines the implementation of English as the medium of instruction (EMI) in tertiary education in Mexico. The chapter also talks about when the first bilingual, international, and sustainable (BIS) technological university was established and provides details on the BIS modality—its aims, axis, and curriculum. The Mexican higher education (HE) system is also outlined, including its structure, its levels, and the four types of institutions that provide tertiary education in Mexico. Furthermore, the technological and polytechnic models are outlined, as well as the Technician Professional (TSU) and Engineering levels of certification.
