ABSTRACT

In an era of rapid change, new understandings are emerging about the nature and process of human learning. Within the context of South Africa both school-based as well as examination results are used to obtain a final mark. School-based assessment offers many benefits over external tests and examinations. These benefits include attention to a greater range of important learning outcomes. However, there have been concerns raised regarding the reliability of school-based assessment. In this chapter, the management and quality assurance of school-based assessment is elaborated upon.
