ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the concepts of quality assurance and control in higher education as complex and human-centred phenomena which have been embraced by higher education world over. It explores what a narrative approach to quality in higher education may present to those institutions with small student cohorts seeking data on quality in their learning and teaching. The chapter suggests that a research approach that may be useful to those interested in investigating quality in the small cohort of students engaged in learning and teaching within the context of higher education. It discusses the factors that include the following: sample size; broad adoption of quantitative research approaches; and identifying critical issues associated with the complexity of learning. The chapter concludes by suggesting a research approach to those interested in investigating higher education quality in the private higher education context or small cohorts of students.
