ABSTRACT

Internationalisation and quality have been on the agendas of higher education institutions around the world as the key policy drivers for some time. This chapter discusses how critical event narrative inquiry method was used to investigate the complex phenomena of internationalisation and quality in higher education, with a focus on senior academics’ perspectives on internationalisation and quality in three higher education contexts: Czech, Australian and English. It focuses on academic perceptions of internationalisation. Internationalisation in higher education is a phenomenon which has become a widespread and strategically significant aspect of higher education. Quality in higher education has gained increased attention virtually in parallel with internationalisation. Eliciting critical events, the study uncovered a number of general/common aspects in internationalising higher education and culture-specific aspects particular to the individual higher education systems. The chapter provides researchers some guidance on how to go about investigating complex topics within higher education, such as internationalisation and quality.
