ABSTRACT

Sports psychology has been shown to improve the performance of high-level sports men and women. It’s often said that mindset is the difference between winning and losing at the highest level. Positive motivation drives us to put the hard work in and improve performance. Positive reinforcement and subconscious directions influence our behaviour. Part of positive motivation/resilience/self-esteem is reframing how we think about failure. Failure is part of life and it’s a good thing. It is not something to be avoided or afraid of. Many, many successful people talk about how learning from their failures led to their success. Exeter University came up with what they believe to be the three best strategies for managing stress, anxiety and difficult times: acceptance, reframing, and humour. These link into failure and to positive motivation.
