ABSTRACT

The newer organization we see as a hopeful sign was founded in the spring 2016 by Kevin Kamashiro who, at the time, was Dean of Education at the California State College San Francisco. The organization has written papers on the issues of equity and justice and responded to editorials in the New York Times and elsewhere. It has garnered the support of hundreds of educators and more than 25 national organizations. Education Deans for Justice and Equity is a nationwide alliance of education means that advances equity and justice in education by speaking and acting collectively and in solidarity with communities regarding policies, reform proposals, and public debates. The critical role of an educated population was apparent to Jefferson and Adams in the 18th century and over the decades and centuries to many others, including John Dewey.
