ABSTRACT

The ability to think independently means not being overly influenced by others' opinions. An example would be standing up for a classmate who is taunted for his choice of clothing or after-school activity. A goal for promoting healthy SEL is to encourage students to know themselves, think independently, and appreciate the multiple perspectives that help inform their thinking. Many educational theorists define independent thinking as a quality of utmost importance if the people want to nurture a society that is creative, constructive, and collaborative. Independent thinkers are curious and want to learn about the world around them. Independent learners establish regular patterns of reading and research to persistently develop their independent thinking, self-management, and resulting activity. .
