ABSTRACT

In order for organizations to be able to respond to crises effectively, they must be able to build crisis capacity. Therefore, the text argues that crisis management is both an outside-in and an inside-out area of practice. Chapter 7 defines organizational capacity by focusing on the challenges of crisis management, exploring crisis history, and defining what it takes for organizations to be successful in crisis management. The chapter differentiates between crisis management and crisis communication, but argues that effective crisis management is inextricably linked with communication.
