ABSTRACT

As the final chapter exploring internal stakeholders and crisis capacity, Chapter 9 focuses on the leadership challenge for organizations in crisis. The chapter argues that leaders play a pivotal role in the management and containment of an issue or crisis and differentiates between crisis management and crisis leadership. The chapter introduces the three critical leadership roles for crisis response – the psychological and emotional role, the functional role, and the public relations role identifying the importance of each of the roles and behaviors that good crisis leaders exhibit.
