ABSTRACT

In Chapter 18, I explore outcomes of crisis response as well as post-crisis organizational change and organizational learning. The book has argued that in order for organizations to successfully respond to issues, risks, and crises, they must be able to adapt. Therefore, this chapter focuses on the concept of organizational learning as an essential part of the process and one that is inherently connected to the outcomes of crises. The chapter describes four broad outcomes of crises: Economic, image or legitimacy, increased scrutiny, and strategic alliance withdrawal. Yet, the chapter argues that we cannot take for granted that organizations will learn from crises or seek to change after crises; however, crises do create the conditions for organizational change.
