ABSTRACT

In Chapter 5, another practical tool is introduced to help organizations manage their environment and stakeholders: the stakeholder mapping process. The chapter argues that no organization has infinite resources. Organizations must be strategic in risk mitigation to ensure they are as successful as possible in managing relationships with its critical stakeholders. Therefore, in introducing stakeholder mapping, the chapter focuses on how practitioners and academics can categorize and evaluate stakeholders based on power, legitimacy, relational history with the organization, relationship valence, and urgency of stakeholder interests. The objective is for the organization to create a snapshot of its stakeholder network at any given time so that it can develop and implement better strategy for engaging with the stakeholders who most need it.
