ABSTRACT

Young children need to be given opportunities to develop the skills that will become the foundation for successful learning, socialisation, and positive mental health. Given the importance of early intervention, children need to begin to develop these skills when they are in their pre-school and early primary years. At a young age, they are developing their language, self-awareness, and their social and emotional skills, all of which are vital for learning readiness and the development of academic ability. If this is done successfully, there will also be a reduction in the issues related to social, behavioural, and emotional difficulties. This book therefore sets out a wide range of creative activities as part of a programme of 32 sessions that aim to develop four core skill areas: relationships, emotions, awareness, and learning. These sessions can be carried out by school staff or educational professionals, alongside parents, in order to support children from age four to eight to develop fundamental life skills.
