ABSTRACT

This chapter will investigate the second platform that will inform the digital analysis: representation. Building upon existing feminist interpretations of the Qur’ān and women’s activities and activism, I will address the second question that the book aims to answer: what issues have been voiced, discussed and brought forward by activists and feminists in these two countries? Were these issues ‘representative’ of women’s issues, and why or why not? In order to do so, I will present the history of women activism in Egypt and the forms of active resistance women have shown over the years in Saudi Arabia.
