ABSTRACT

Turning to New Materialism and object-oriented ontology, this chapter considers the positioning of ocean as an object. Such inquiry reveals the inseparability between scaled representation and visual representation. By way of Timothy Morton, this chapter considers ocean as hyperobject and addresses the idea of ocean as body. As an example of the interaction between bodies and objects, this chapter turns to the massive problem of plastic pollution in marine environments. Finally, this chapter introduces the role of materialism in terms of sound and representations of ocean.
