ABSTRACT

In this chapter to explore the concepts readiness and transition Meisels’ (1999) model of readiness and Rimm-Kauffman and Pianta’s (2000) model of transition are analysed. Comparison of these models identified four perspectives of each concept and through further comparison of the models similarities were identified. Drawing upon this comparison and upon the generated research data, ‘The Relational Transition to School’ model was created. This model extends the transition to include the phases of preparation and adjustment, as part of the transition to school. Both phases can last a year.
