ABSTRACT

Border Crossing has most impact if set up before the students arrive. However for some students, particularly those with EBD, it can work well to involve the students in the building of it. This chapter describes what are different sensory channels, equipment needed, and ways to make use of Border Crossing. Border Crossing was used in this example as a vehicle for incorporating students’ individual targets. The situation was that three classes in a school came together for a week’s residency to explore the theme of transition. The action in the narrative included a woman (actor in role) recruiting the help of the students to follow her on a dangerous journey. This journey led her to arrive at the border crossing where she had her possessions taken by the guards before being roughly shoved on her way through the border crossing and out of sight.
