ABSTRACT

The musical forest is suitable for either setting up before the students enter or for involving them in helping to set it up. This chapter provides instructions on how to suspend copper tubes inside cardboard tube ‘trees’ to make the sounds for the musical forest. It presents an example of how musical forest environment has been used. Hanging strips of fabric were set up before the students entered. Green fabric was suspended around the forest to enclose the space and make it more intimate. Some of the strips of fabric had small metallic objects and small musical instruments (bells, rattles, etc.) tied on to them to provide the musical and percussive sounds when the fabric is moved.
