ABSTRACT

The storytelling sari tent is a setting suitable for the telling of almost any story. Ones that work well are those that have within them lots of multi-sensory element. This chapter presents an example of of how the sari tent environment has been used. In the example sari tent colourful saris were replaced with a white parachute to represent the inside of a whale’s belly for a story about the sea. Inside the parachute strips of red fabric and lengths of wide red elastic tape were hung. The red against the white parachute gave a strong visual contrast for the visually impaired students as well as representing the blood of the whale.
