ABSTRACT

Students often need assistance with reading text. A Guide-O-Rama guides the students through an assigned text, providing support so they can read and learn at more rigorous levels. Core extensions are designed to extend the learning time of the core content by giving students more time to learn the core curriculum. Preteaching is when the support or intervention class prepares the students for the upcoming core content instruction. By receiving scaffolding content, the student experiences much of the instruction that they will see in the core and can contribute more readily to the conversation in the core. Many of the leading researchers of reading instruction agree that strong readers apply certain core habits when making meaning of text. Technology offers a wide array of constantly evolving tools to support students who learn differently. Discovery Education online allows students the opportunity to read, watch, and learn in their native language while they are learning English.
