ABSTRACT

Chapter 9 discusses how ‘nature rituals’ are not just useful but necessary to keep and rejuvenate our sense of wonder. It considers the long history of such rituals, where indigenous peoples also found them necessary to regularly refresh their connection with the rest of life. It then considers three categories of nature rituals. The first is the deep ecology workshop process known as ‘The Council of All Beings’. This explains how to carry out the ‘Cosmic Walk’ ritual, the ‘Truth Mandala’ ritual, the ‘Finding an Ally’ ritual, and the ‘Corbett’ ritual. The second section looks at Yatras, Vision Quests, and ‘Rites of Passage’. The third section looks at simple meditation practices to reconnect with nature, explaining five ‘visualisations’. The Chapter concludes that nature rituals are not mumbo-jumbo, but rather are important and powerful tools to reconnect people to nature.
