ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book aims to find out the pertinence World Englishes (WE) to English Language Teaching (ELT) in the multilingual and multicultural context of Australia. It analyzes the participants’ responses to the interview questions about the definition of WE, the status of WE in the world, legitimacy of WE, and the ownership of English. The book shows that the majority of the participants was acquainted with the dissemination of English to the world as an international language, adoption, and adaption of English by Culturally And Linguistically Diverse English speakers. It argues that despite participants’ support for the idea that WE are relevant to ELT in English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students, their partial grasp of the paradigm of WE undermined their decisions for incorporating WE into their pedagogical practices.
