ABSTRACT

English, more than any other international language, has connected Culturally And Linguistically Diverse people globally. English has become the common language of scientific discourse in a world where the relative “development” of a nation can best be measured in terms of its access to science through English. The spread of English, as a result of diverse factors, and use of English as a language of wider communication, has resulted in geographical, demographical, and structural changes in English as an International Language. One of the most prevalent models in the demography of English speakers is the dichotomy of native and non-native English speakers. The tripartite model of English speakers categorizes English language speakers into English as a native language speakers, English as a second language speakers, and English as a foreign language speakers. Phonological variation is the most noticeable level of language variation both among the language users within a country or across nations.
