ABSTRACT

This chapter presents practical implications and suggestions for students/teachers, program administrators, and SLA researchers. For students and teachers, I discussed how predeparture training and preparation should be designed to maximize its benefits for participants. For program administrators, I offer examples of program design features that may result in different types of social networks formed around the program. For SLA researchers, I present future directions of research for better understanding and potentially maximizing study abroad experiences for participants and the society. The chapter concludes with the mention of a broader and changing context surrounding study abroad as an enterprise.
