ABSTRACT

As an effective teacher, we have the opportunity to push for and model change for our students. Some students with dyslexia resist change because they believe it will not matter anyway. Most students respond positively to a well-organised subject taught by an enthusiastic teacher who has a real interest in his students and what they learn. Good lesson planning is an essential component of teaching and learning. The effective teacher is always well prepared and enjoys a successful instructional experience with his students. Teachers need to vary their teaching styles and techniques in order not to cause boredom to their students inside the classroom. An open-minded teacher is the one who is willing to consider the collective experiences, beliefs, opinions, values and perspectives that are different from his own. Being approachable is a pre-requite for student engagement which in turn fuels student motivation.
