ABSTRACT

This Conclusion sums up concerns with Shakespeare, the Renaissance and Empire and related matters, and introduces some more contexts and typologies between past and present, England and beyond. Elizabeth I, Shakespeare and James I are key here, but other backgrounds are too, such as Walter Ralegh and Elizabeth Throckmorton and their family and associates in different branches. A local Shakespeare of his own time and a global Shakespeare are part of English and world culture. Amidst ecological trauma and imperialism, people seem to be drawn to Shakespeare’s poetic and theatrical expression and to his understanding of culture but also to his representations of nature and human nature.
