ABSTRACT

Students need to know what success looks like if they are to achieve it. It is hard to convey what success looks like through description, since much of our sense of success is tacit. Students can appreciate what success looks like by examining model work at various levels of skill; we can help by ensuring students engage with models, articulate what they notice and improve weak models. This promotes metacognition and is particularly useful for low attaining students. Returning to models can help students improve their work.
