ABSTRACT

The author believes one of the best and easiest ways teachers can make an impact, both in their classrooms and beyond, is to know how to obtain funding for their own good ideas. She guessing that teacher believe so too or they wouldn't be reading this! She explains the basic parts of a typical grant proposal, give teacher the annotated examples from successful applications, and share tips for grant-writing success, all gleaned from author's many acceptances and rejections. Numerous research studies from experts such as Marzano and less well-known online authors Greene, Kisida, and Bowen have pointed out the value of project-based activities and real-world experiences for all students. One could argue these "extras" really shouldn't be considered extra at all, and that by looking to outside funding sources, classroom teachers are actually hurting their cause long term by enabling school boards and legislators to cut budgets guilt free.
