ABSTRACT

It is common for student behaviour to be a cause of anxiety for people new to the teaching profession. Behaviour is an important factor within Physical Education to ensure our lessons remain safe within practical environments. This chapter explains the importance of managing behaviour within lessons, with numerous practical examples to support the reader. Guidance is provided to ensure that behaviour management is considered prior to planning lessons – from their initial high expectations, to the use of positive body language. Support is also provided with dealing with instances of bad behaviour within lessons, including potential progressive sanctions and using department/school behaviour policies.
