ABSTRACT

The development of student leadership is an important component of Physical Education, and another factor which makes our subject unique. This chapter defines the term ‘leadership’ and outlines ways in which this can be taught within PE lessons. As the chapter develops, ways in which student leadership can be utilised have been highlighted, along with practical examples, for use within planning and teaching. Courses and qualifications which can be taught within PE lessons and associated with leadership have also been highlighted. This chapter finishes with ways in which PE can contribute to the development of leadership across the whole school.
