ABSTRACT
What does peer interaction add to the classroom learning experience? Let’s start by looking at two transcripts – one from a teacher-fronted discussion in an ESL classroom and the other from two learners working together on a pair work task in another classroom. The learners in both situations are newly arrived migrant children aged five to eight years and their level of English is insufficient for them to participate in mainstream classes.
