ABSTRACT
There is a fundamental need to define a number system over which the computations are to be performed. In the present context, we are interested in the study of number systems based on integers, rational, real, and complex numbers, and the computational algorithms that employ the corresponding arithmetic. In this chapter, we define such number systems, the mathematical properties of integers, and the affiliated algebra of interest.
