ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the potential boundaries to creativity, and considers ways of overcoming these by adopting creative mentoring strategies. It looks at some simple techniques that can be used to enhance creative thought. When our ability to think creatively is limited by our perceptions we may need to take more focused approaches in order to produce alternatives. Creativity is simply a matter of connecting things and in his view creative people can connect experiences they have had in order to synthesise new ideas. Imagery is often linked to our creative capacities because it allows us to both view and depict things in non-linear ways. The mentor and mentee work together to construct their own type of magic in the form of knowledge, skills and understanding, the development of which could be described as ‘the art of transformation and change’.
