ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses how the Action Learning Cycle (ALC) relates to inquiry and how teachers are better able to communicate the process of inquiry to their students and engage more deeply with their own inquiry when engaging in ALC. It explores the need to equip students with the knowledge to cope with the continuous change that will occur in texts and technology. The chapter also discusses the processes underlying inquiry and the strategies that students will need to learn in order to successfully engage in the inquiry process. It also explores the relationship of critical literacy skills and research skills to the inquiry process. The chapter develops a pedagogy of inquiry and explores the processes of design and redesign. When students are becoming more proficient with the inquiry process, teachers can implement a guided approach. This approach usually involves teachers in devising the initial problem or question and students determining the process and the outcomes.
