ABSTRACT

This chapter examines general issues prevalent in education. Several factors cause confusion in schools and impact on the capability of school staff to do their work effectively in achieving the purpose of the school. Departments of education have historically attempted to drive change at a high frequency with limited knowledge or consideration of the implications for the people at school level. The larger the school, the greater the number of leaders, specialists, support staff, teachers and teacher aides who must develop the specific knowledge, technical skill and/or social process skill required for systems to be effective and achieve their purpose. The complexity increases with the number of people who are involved in the system. The systems in a school to educate students involve people directly interacting with people: teachers interacting with students, students interacting with staff and staff interacting with staff.
