ABSTRACT

All schools have some sort of structure. Most of these structures can be represented in an organisational chart that shows people, or rather roles, with the various lines linking some roles to other roles. But there may be very different views as to the way that structure should be interpreted and what those lines and sometimes dotted lines actually mean. In experience the guiding principles when creating a structure should include: That is, each role should have a specific role description (SRD) that describes the work expected of the person in the role, not merely a general one. There can be and is frequent misunderstanding about the nature of the authority that creates good working relationships. Systems of differentiation and equalisation have a huge impact on the social processes within the school. This is because the systems of equalisation bind and could be characterised as reinforcing a collective experience.
