ABSTRACT

In Lithuanian interjections are used to express various feelings, volition, incentive or various related things. What feeling or incentive is expressed by an interjection depends on the context of entire utterance. It is also revealed by intonation, mimics and general body language. They are typical to the colloquial speech, but they are used also in the written texts, especially literary ones. They do occur in journalistic writings when seeking expressivity, to attract attention and to create irony. Interjections often accompany rhetorical address, exclamations and questions.
