ABSTRACT

Interpolations are elements of a sentence that are grammatically unrelated to other parts of the sentence; they are comments inserted in the text. They can express an author’s point of view, evaluation, attract attention of the interlocutor, indicate source of information, comment on the order of presenting content, relation between statements, etc. Formal expression of Lithuanian interpolation is varied: single words, collocations and sentences. Generally, the semantics of interpolation is more important than the expression. In a written text, interpolation is usually separated by commas and if an unexpected, thematically distant evaluation is presented, it can be separated by dashes (see 23.1.4).
