ABSTRACT

This chapter explores Performing World Music, the fourth Dimension of World Music Pedagogy, and presents a variety of considerations related to the choral performance of world music repertoire. Evaluating commercially available repertoire as part of a World Music Pedagogy unit is discussed alongside such issues as accompaniment, culturally informed sound ideals, culturally appropriate movement, and the inclusion of culture bearers in performance. The roles of the conductor and the audience are also addressed. A variety of modes of performances are described, including informal sharing opportunities, informances, interdisciplinary learning showcases, and traditional performances. Possibilities for integrating elements of World Music Pedagogy into performance are also offered. The Conductor’s Corner in this chapter features the choral music publisher earthsongs.
