ABSTRACT

In the future, technology will be so interwoven in our lives that we will not even notice it. Advances in machine intelligence, faster computing and smaller devices will change the way we interact with each other and with machines. This is the promise, and, while reality might be quite different, journalists will need to imagine new and different ways of interacting with information and with people. This chapter argues that to exploit emerging technologies, journalists will need to become proactive in their approach, positioning themselves at the centre of a design process for socially responsible interactions.
