ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to provide teachers with guidance through which they are better organised and prepared to teach the variety of classes that they may be allocated by their mentor, including integrating assessment opportunities through which learners can make sufficient progress. Teaching academic subjects begins even before teachers have placed a foot in the classroom. Teachers need to become familiar with - and perhaps analyse - specifications, schemes of work, seating plans, lesson plans, learner data and information before they even deliver their very first whole-group activity. The very first thing that teachers need to do is find out which course they will be teaching. Teachers need to learn the full name of the course, the level and the unit they will be teaching. For many teachers, the motivation for pursuing a career in teaching is the opportunity to teach the academic qualifications within the subject areas of either Business and/or Economics.
