ABSTRACT

The word assessment is almost a mantra in most schools and colleges, regardless of the subject that is taught. Working with the specification assessment criteria can provide teachers with the boundaries that ensure learners are rewarded appropriately for the level of knowledge the learners have demonstrated with the appropriate level of skill. By working with these criteria in a regular manner, teachers are informed that learners are making progress and striving towards the standards that are at the right level for their individual progress. To ensure that assessment is completed in a rigorous and consistent way, schools and colleges will timetable formal and informal assessment dates into the school calendar. The benefit of assessing in line with assessment criteria is that teachers work with a rigorous set of standards that ensure consistency and impartiality. Through this set of standards, teachers are able to assess the success of their teaching and learning strategies and activities.
