ABSTRACT

This chapter seeks to identify specific initiatives and good practice in each of the following areas: business links, Enterprise Education, and financial capability. It looks at how to develop some of those soft employability skills into the “ordinary” business lesson, and to make links between the academic skills of analysis and evaluation and the wider lives of learners. Employers too indicate that learners - whether from Higher Education, Further Education, or school - lack a range of soft skills that they need to integrate quickly into the workplace and allow them to flourish. An outstanding provider will be able to evidence this with learners achieving additional relevant qualifications. As well as the need for learners to develop skills for the “next step,” whether that is for the next step of their academic development or for employment, the Department for Education also expects education to support learners to prepare for their wider lives.
