ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book introduces the idea of Linguistic and Sensory Beings and the benefit of sensory-being for both groups. It discusses mindfulness and looks at how we might approach introducing sensory-being in our practice. The book focuses on the role sensory engagement plays in our cognitive development. It explains seven sensory systems, detailing experiences for each that are likely to appeal to Sensory Beings and exploring some of the quirks of our senses. The book discusses topics that relate to how we perceive and embrace Sensory Beings in the world. It looks at how we can sensitively facilitate sensory-being in a way that opens up connection and engagement. The book considers how space can effect sensory-being and how sensory-being can be themed to support different curriculum subjects, cultural connection and memory.
